1/31/2024 0 Comments Is flashing ecu safe motorcycleThere is a guy right in Gresham Oregon who is a Suzuki V Twin expert and can set you right up and do it very reasonably. There is a bunch of bad information out there, so be careful who you listen to. You can have one for mileage, one for performance, and combinations to favor one RPM or another. You or they can download more than one program, so you can simply dial profile 1,2,3,4 or 5. They don't need a dyno to do it, just a fuel/air mixture device and a road test. A better bet is to install a Power Commander Fuel Controller and you can dial in whatever changes you like or you can get a pro to do it. It's fine to not need more power, but the truth is that with the proper mixture comes more power and often, better mileage. You just need to find someone who has the equipment to do it. I will also ask them about whether aftermarket airfilters are any issue with an ECU flash.I don't know what the ECU recall was about, but yes, you can get your ECU reflashed. I do not know if the Active Tune is useful or needed in conjunction with an already flashed ECU. I think the Active Tune is meant to enable the ECU to perform a degree of automatic/adaptive fuel tuning while the bike is on the road. It can be seen on the Graves website, and is called the FTecu Yamaha Active Tune AFR Self Tuning ECU Kit. There is another device on the market, not unlike a PC5, but which is not the same thing as a PC5. The flash does everything that is done by the PC, but then adds a whole list of additional, more complex improvements, many being perhaps more important than basic fueling. The range of parameters that the flash software will correct is big. See 2wdw's website for the list of engine operational parameters that the flash will correct, or ask 2wdw directly. The flash, however, is developed to address not only basic fueling issues, but also complex fueling issues (such as throttle cut), and then stuff which the software controlling the Power Commander isn't even remotely designed to influence, such as ignition timing, & etc. Power Commanders can assist with basic fueling issues, but not more. I am not sure about the influence of an aftermarket airfilter relative to a flash. In any case, Nels from 2wdw has stated here on the forum that the effect of different exhaust set ups is actually quite minimal with regard to the effectiveness of any given flash. Ask them if your system is one of those exhausts. Secondly, 2wdw has specific flashes ready for different exhaust set ups. The dyno work is one of the processes employed by them in the course of creating an effective flash. Since 2wdw's flashes are developed on the dyno in the first place, you do not need to do any further dyno development on your own once you receive your flashed ECU. By removing the AIS and installing block-off plates, you don't get pops.ĭjstraub, just email 2wdw directly with your questions, which are good ones. If you delete your cat without installing them you'll get loud popping on deceleration. Block off plates allow you to remove the air injection system pump, which exists for emissions purposes. It has little baffling and basically serves as a straight-pipe. If all you want is volume, you can just delete the cat and leave the stock muffler. Some people don't like the conical muffler but it doesn't bother me. An R1 header can be had for $150-200, but prices seem to be higher overseas. The OEM header is not all that restrictive. The most popular exhaust mod is a 3/4 system as it gives you the most bang-for-your-buck, and a number of members replace the stainless steel headers with R1 titanium headers for weight savings. You don't need to spend $3k on an akra system if you don't want to spend $3k. Do you recommend modding the airbox with the flash? I've been thinking of removing the snorkel in the box and opening up the intake area. Will the EXUP, AIS, and O2 sensor disable with your flash allow me to remove the aftermarket plugs (servo buddy, etc) that keeps the CEL off?
